The outgoing Uganda Christian University (UCU) Media Link Association cabinet bid farewell to their duties, transferring the mantle to a new generation of leaders, filling the School of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMC) with mixed feelings. A sense of nostalgia and thankfulness pervaded the air as students, lecturers, and distinguished guests gathered to witness the historic change of power.

In a symbolic handover ceremony, Bill Dan Arnold, the speaker of the outing cabinet who also represented outing president Kefa Ssenoga, formally handed over a transition file to H.E. Vanessa Majwega. Significant figures in attendance included Prof. Monica Chibita, dean of students at the school of JMC, and John Ssemakula, head of the undergraduate programme at JMC.

Prof. Chibita’s message was inspired by 1 Corinthians 12, emphasising the theme of unity in diversity. “Just as each part of the body serves a distinct function, each member of the association contributes in their own way,” she explained. “Remember, you are a team with a common goal, and embracing your differences will lead to a greater impact.”

Mr. Ssemakula stressed the significance of togetherness and thanked the departing cabinet members, particularly the third-year students, for their devotion. “Your passion has been commendable,” he said, “and as you step into the real world, your journey as ambassadors of journalism continues.”

Vanessa Majwega, the association’s incoming president, complimented the work of the departing cabinet, recognising their role in setting a strong basis for the future. “Kefa’s strength and passion were my inspiration,” Majwega explained. “I believe that this drive will carry me forward as well.”

Vanessa new administration is prepared to continue on the legacy of their predecessors. Majwega acknowledged the void created by the departed cabinet, accepting responsibility for keeping the organisation lively and responsive to student concerns.

The new cabinet’s executive members include Vice President Leah Alikobakwoyo, Speaker Immaculate Auma, Secretary Pamela Nabwire, and General Duties Precious Gift Aloyo.
