Uganda Christian University (UCU) has accepted to host the Akii-Bua Memorial and National Track and Field Championship as per the request from the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF).
The two sporting events will happen on Saturdays, 13th and 27th June 2026, respectively, at the UCU sports ground, shifting them from Nelson Mandela (Namboole) Stadium, which is currently undergoing renovations in preparation for the 2027 PAMOJA African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The request was granted by the Deputy UCU Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, Mr David Mugawe, in a letter written on 04th June 2026 in reference to the request letter earlier written to UCU by the Secretary General of UAF, Ms Beatrice Ayikoru, on 29th May 2026.
“Please note that you are expected to respect the University’s values and Christian ethics, including conduct, the Master of Ceremonies (MC), and the music that will be played during these events,” the letter by Mr Mugawe states.
Andrew Malinga from the UCU Sports Department emphasised that UCU is ready to host the games.
“They requested the grounds, and we endorsed the request and sent it to the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for confirmation, and he has done so,” Malinga said.
This year’s edition of the Akii-Bua Memorial Track and Field Championship will be the 24th edition and will take place on Saturday, 13th June 2026. Registration remains open until 11th June 2026.
