Why spend so much on a birthday celebration?

In today’s social media-driven world, social functions like bridal showers, picnics, staff parties, couple dates, marriage proposals and the like have been done in such a way that many young people find themselves spending way too much on them. Birthday parties have not been spared either. Birthdays are basically an anniversary celebration of the day we are born. Besides the celebrant, parents especially mothers are thanked for conceiving, carrying and nurturing the life of the child. Ultimately, God being the supreme controller of the universe is given the utmost thanks for preserving our lives.

However, today, attention is slowly shifting from the event being a one of thanks and celebration to a public display of pomp. Whereas many people who choose to run huge budgets over their birthdays have the finances, it’s also true that a number could be trying to keep up with the set trends. In recent times, social media has seen some people carrying money bouquets, holding expensive photo shoots and making toasts over expensive champagne bottles. Because of this there is pressure for birthday celebrants to add some pomp to their day. But are all these expenses worth the hype? Wouldn’t it be okay for us to keep it calm and simple?

A popular notion among people who advocate for a low budget on birthdays is that they occur annually. So if the opportunity to celebrate it in one year is missed, the new year sets in with another opportunity.

Wherever you stand, you do not need to take a big hit financially in order to have your birthday celebrated. Whichever way it finds you, the ultimate celebration is the gift of life.
