Uganda Christian University (UCU) delivered a dominant performance in the University Football League (UFL), securing a 5-1 victory over Kabale University at home on 20th February.

UCU wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Oyaka Geoffrey opening the scoring in the 2nd minute. Defender Marvin doubled the lead just four minutes later, setting the tone for a high-scoring affair.

Striker Harry Abiti extended the advantage with a brace, scoring in the 33rd and 65th minutes, while Peter Kyomuhendo sealed the emphatic win with a strike in the 71st minute.

In this game defender and assistant captain Patrick Ogola showed star performances providing four assists in the process.

Kabale managed a late consolation goal through Agaba Jovin’s penalty in the 83rd minute.

The victory lifts UCU to second place in Group C with five points from four matches. St. Lawrence University (SLAU) remains at the top with seven points, while YMCA, also on five points, sits third.

Kabale, with just four points from four games, is at the bottom of the group.

UCU head coach Jimmy Kintu handed a midfield debut to Kisembo Ivan, while goalkeeper Norman Rukari made his first appearance in the second half, replacing skipper Elton Mwidu, who was subbed off as a precaution after an injury scare.

UCU will now shift focus to their next fixture against YMCA on 3rd March in another home fixture as they aim to build on this strong performance in the UFL group stage.

    Starting XI – UCU

    GK: Elton Mwidu (C)

DEF: Apenyo Isaac, Ogola Patrick, Wambuga Marvin, Ssewanyana Sharif

MID: Kisembo Ivan, Kyomuhendo Peter, Ariaka Jordan, Opio Allan

    FWD: Abiti Harry, Oyaka Geoffrey
