The Uganda Christian University (UCU) Football team also known as Cardinals are set for a decisive battle against Kabale University on February 20th, in what could be their last chance to salvage their season.
Currently, at the bottom of their group, which includes teams like Kabale University, YMCA, and St. Lawrence University, UCU faces a do-or-die situation to keep their hopes alive in the university football league.
It has been a tough campaign for the Cardinals, who have struggled to find consistency in their performances.
Their previous matches have seen them drop crucial points, leaving them with a mountain to climb in the standings. However, with one final opportunity to turn things around, UCU will need to bring their best game against Kabale University who they lost to in the first leg.
The cardinals captain Mwidu Elton says, “no matter what will come out we are fully fixed on winning this game, because its all we have in our hands”.
He adds on saying, “we have prepared so well, since last year in November after the previous game against Kabale-and by God’s grace we have this game at home. Football is a game of three kinds of results a win, draw, or loss we are going to make sure we work to get the three points”.
Kabale University, on the other hand, will not make things easy. With their own ambitions in the competition, they will be looking to capitalize on UCU’s struggles and secure vital points.
Meanwhile, teams like YMCA and St. Lawrence University continue to pose a formidable challenge in the group, making UCU’s task even harder.
For the Cardinals, this match is not just about survival—it’s about proving their resilience and determination. Can they rise to the occasion and defy the odds, or will their campaign come to an early end? All eyes will be on them come February 20th at the university main football grounds.
