    UCU Cardinals Edge Bugema

Uganda Christian University football team, the UCU Cardinals, picked up a vital 1–0 win over Bugema University in a tightly contested AUUS Games match played at the UCU Old Pitch.

The game remained goalless at halftime despite UCU creating several chances in the final third. The Cardinals pressed high and spent long spells in Bugema’s half but failed to convert before the break.

UCU found the breakthrough in the second half through Peter Kyomuhendo. The midfeilder struck a well taken free kick to beat the Bugema goalkeeper and settle the contest. The goal proved decisive in a match defined by discipline and patience.

Coach Jimmy Kintu’s side managed the remainder of the game well, keeping shape and limiting Bugema to few clear chances as they protected the narrow lead until full time.

The win adds three points to UCU’s group campaign. The Cardinals came into the fixture with four points from three games, following a 1–1 draw against Kampala University, a 2–1 win over ISBAT University, and a 1–0 loss to St Lawrence University.

Kyomuhendo said the goal and win carried personal and team significance.

“I would like to thank the Almighty. He gave us this opportunity. To score a goal, I feel blessed. This goal may take us to another stage. The win takes us to another level and it means a lot to us,” he said.

UCU Cardinals now await communication from the AUUS Games secretariat to confirm their next fixture and standing in the competition.
